Department Information

The Department of English teaches a range of core curriculum classes and offers a B.A. in English with optional career-ready concentrations in Creative Writing, Professional Writing, Secondary Education, and Pre-Law, along with minors in Creative and Professional Writing. The Department also offers an MA in Professional and Technical Writing and graduate certificates in Technical Writing and Digital Communication, Creative Writing, and Teaching College Writing. English faculty are exceptionally dynamic, accomplished, and highly qualified. We offer classes through different delivery methods (face-to-face, asynchronous online, hybrid, multi-modal, etc.) and reside in MGA¿s School of Arts & Letters, which also has degree programs in History, Art and Applied Design, Interdisciplinary Studies, Media and Communication, Modern Language, Music, Public Relations, and Core Curriculum.

Job Summary

The Department of English at Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is seeking candidates for a full-time Assistant Professor of English, with academic or professional experience to prepare them for duties such as graduate and undergraduate courses in technical and professional writing, writing for digital media, and 1st year composition. This position, beginning in Fall 2024, supports both our undergraduate English major and Graduate degrees.

Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities in lower-level, upper-level, and graduate English courses may include online and face-to-face (day and/or evening) classes at any of MGA¿s five campuses. Teaching load is 12 credit hours (4/4) per semester.

Required Qualifications

Required Educational Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical and/or Professional Writing, Strategic Business Communication, or related field.

Required Experience

  • Evidence of scholarly promise or achievement and an excellent teaching record are also required.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Ability to teach specialized graduate and undergraduate writing courses such as Professional Writing, Technical Writing, Writing for Digital Media, Advanced Editing, Grant Writing, Public Relations Writing and Research, and/or Data storytelling.
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in technical and professional writing.
  • Experience in effective online course delivery models and design is an asset.
