The Office of Marketing and Communications is accepting applications for a Photo and Video Specialist. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

As Photo & Video Specialist at Shenandoah University, you will be responsible for all aspects ofelectronic media production, including videography, photography, editing, and distribution thatshowcases the diversity of Shenandoah University’s programs and experiences. Your role willsupport storytelling of more than 200 areas of study across six schools as a part of theuniversity's marketing and communications team. The Photo & Video Specialist will work in close collaboration with the Director of CreativeServices and the Senior Photo/Video Specialist to develop consistent visual narratives within theuniversity’s brand messaging. Team collaboration will offer a platform for fresh ideas, along withsupport for continued creative and technical growth. The ideal candidate is a positive, creative individual with a passion for exploring emerging visualmediums to inspire and attract audiences. Additionally, this individual should excel at timemanagement and organization in an environment where quick turnarounds of projects are oftennecessary. The Photo & Video Specialist will play a crucial role in helping to shape the evolving visualidentity of the university and its communication to external and internal audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal & external university individuals and the Office of Marketing & Communications (OMC) staff to produce effective photo/video projects that align with strategic goals
  • Prioritize projects based on core areas of Recruitment, Retention, Advancement and the Office of the President
  • Executes current photo/video trends in visual storytelling techniques
  • Understanding of online distribution channels and viewing habits of each channel
  • Understanding of visual communication including the use of composition, typography and color theory
  • Problem-solves quickly and effectively
  • Execute simultaneous projects with tight deadlines and sees them through from concept to completion
  • Help manage digital asset storage and archiving along with video equipment and storage locations
  • Excels in interpersonal interactions with students and other individuals being filmed and photographed
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and carry up to 25 lbs on your person for extended periods of time
  • Full time employee with a flexible schedule that allows for possible night, weekend, and multi-day trips for university events
  • Maintains great work flows and processes for photo/video capturing and editing
  • Participates in the process of developing story ideas and contributes to the overall creative vision for projects produced by OMC
  • Provides a positive role model and assists with educating/training students and student employees.

Required Skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of experience
  • A degree in multimedia production or related studies (video, photography, television or
    film)
  • Knowledge and skills of photo/video production, including but not limited to all mediums
    of light and sound in various environments
  • Knowledge and prior experience with desktop applications such as DaVinci Resolve,
    Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, and Photoshop
  • Knowledgeable with both DSLR and Mirrorless cameras
  • Proven ability as a creator to weave together story and marketing strategy
  • Understanding of viewing habits for various social media platforms
  • Drone experience with a valid FAA license a plus

Shenandoah's History

Dayton, Virginia was Shenandoah’s home for 85 years. In 1875, the university was founded there as Shenandoah High School. Over the next 85 years, the institution changed names six times but always kept “Shenandoah” as part of its name. In 1946, the school nearly closed due to financial concerns. Rather than closing the school, university president Dr. Forrest S. Racey oversaw the move to Winchester. The last classes in Dayton began in the fall of 1959 with an enrollment of 159 students. Shenandoah opened its doors in Winchester in September 1960.

 

In Winchester, the school began to thrive and, in 1991, became Shenandoah University.
