Working Hours:

Specific work hours to be agreed upon by the supervisor and employee prior to the onset of employment with a preference for weekday mornings during high-volume weeks around the beginning and end of a new academic term. THIS IS AN ON-SITE POSITION.

Summary:

The part-time Academic Technology Support Specialist provides academic technology support for RACC students and faculty. This support includes responding to and resolving Learning Management System (LMS) help requests submitted online, on the phone, and in-person. This employee also creates and deploys routine survey projects for student course evaluations across the college. Finally, this role completes other routine administrative duties, such as maintaining department training records and standards of practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide help desk support for faculty and students for Canvas and other academic technologies.
  2. Assist students with orientation to and navigation of Canvas and the RACC online learning environment.
  3. Assist in the creation of academic technology support resources for students.
  4. Create and deploy routine student course evaluations and other on-demand surveys.
  5. Maintain faculty training and distance education course evaluation records.
  6. Assist in the creation and maintenance of department standards of practice.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Required

  • Associate’s degree
  • One year of student, instructor, or administrative experience working directly with a learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, D2L, etc.).

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of technology help desk support experience
  • Experience using Microsoft 365: SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and/or Teams
  • Experience with electronic survey tools (SurveyMonkey, Watermark, or Google/Microsoft Forms)
  • Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education environment

Candidates for this position must be:

  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ready to self-train and new software.
  • Able to independently to solve user problems.
  • Able to write and speak clearly on the phone and face-to-face.
  • Professional and courteous at all times.
Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an intermediate to advanced understanding of Microsoft and/or other web-based software programs. Proficiency in keyboard typing and file organization on a Windows PC is expected for this position.

Communication Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short chat messages, and emails. They should be able to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations within the department and college.

Reasoning Ability:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. They must also have an ability to deal with both standardized situations with only occasional or no

variables and some situations with frequent variables.

Mathematical Skills:

This individual must have an ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, to sit, and to reach with hands and arms.
