Location

Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.

Job Summary

This position is a full-time professional position in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. The person in this position will serve as the compliance point of contact and is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, institution and sponsored agency programmatic policies, guidelines, rules and regulations. They will provide technical assistance, training and support for grant-funded programs, assist in facilitating the grants and contracts post-award process, monitor post-award grant processes for compliance, disseminate information related to awards and contract fulfillment and assist with reporting activities. In addition, the person in this position will provide their expertise and support to the office as needed for federal and state and institutional compliance in securing grant funding.

Responsibilities
  • Assists with the implementation of Federal, State and University policies and procedures.
  • Interprets and ensures compliance with agency rules, regulations, guidelines, etc. Assists principal investigator/program director in award compliance with all applicable federal guidelines (including 0MB Circular A-21 and 0MB Uniform Guidance), sponsor-specific rules and restrictions), state regulations and university internal protocols and fiscal policies.
  • Develops training materials and facilitate workshop for and provides technical assistance to college staff, faculty, administrators, and teams including but not limited to time and effort reporting, responsible conduct of research, human subjects research and IRB training, conflicts of interest and research misconduct.
  • Maintain ongoing updates and communications related to current grants and contracts, this includes regular auditing and reporting to principal investigators on financial status of grants, contracts and discretionary accounts. Also provide relevant updates and reports to departmental leadership, as needed.
  • Assist with closeout of grants and contracts.
  • Ensure that related post-award processes are coordinated appropriately by members of the grants & contracts team, including award setup, review, account setup verification, and ensuring that staff is setup appropriately.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with University, department, and most common sponsor systems and processes for proposal preparation, submission, and tracking.
  • Assist the team in ensuring compliance in document preparation when applying for grants, including updating/collecting biosketches, certifications, institutional data other support pages and letters of support.
  • Participates in audits and preparation for audits of the unit.
  • Informs principal investigators/project directors of any compliance issues regarding grantor agency regulations, and disallowances with their program. Assists in correcting discrepancies and monitors corrective actions.
  • Works as part of a team with other grants office staff in performing grants office activities and assists the office with maintaining and analysis of awards to inform future decisions/plans to ensure effectiveness and compliance.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three years or more of professional experience
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

One (1) year or more experience working with grants development and management.
Well organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently
Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

2 years or more of advanced or expert level experience with federal grants and contracts management and compliance
Demonstrated understanding of Uniform Guidance requirements as it pertains to grants management and compliance
Demonstrated ability to work with detailed data and information, understand various reporting/tracking tools, and interpret and apply the data and information
Experience in providing professional and technical assistance/training within a higher education environment
Experience working with University and federal reporting and grants submissions and management systems (eRA commons, NIH ASSIST, research.gov, NSpires, G-5, etc)

Proposed Salary

Salary range is from $40,000 to $50,000

Organization

Albany State University is a four-year institution in southwest Georgia offering undergraduate and graduate liberal arts and professional degree programs, and a wide range of outreach programs to the community. Albany State University is located in Albany, a progressive city of 100,000, on a 206-acre campus featuring impressive new buildings. Both traditional and non-traditional students make up the more than 4,000 students who attend Albany State. They come primarily from southwest and middle Georgia, Atlanta, other states in the U.S., and several foreign countries. The average student age is 24 and about 40 percent of the students live in on-campus housing.

Albany State offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs, of which the most popular majors are biology, criminal justice, computer science, middle-grades education, business administration and nursing. The University offers six advanced degrees: the master of science in criminal justice, master of public administration, master of business administration, master of science in nursing, master of education in 11 majors, and an education specialist degree. The university also offers the Board of Regents' engineering transfer program and the dual degree program in engineering with Georgia Tech.

Students at Albany State stay busy after class by participating in 59 clubs and organizations including bands, choirs, religious groups, honor societies, several major Greek and honor sororities and fraternities, and ROTC. An NCAA Division II school, Albany State's intercollegiate sports include men's football, basketball, baseball, track and field, cross-country and women's basketball, volleyball, cross-country and track and field.

A historically black institution, Albany State was founded in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute and supported by private religious organizations. It remained privately supported through 1917, when it began to receive state support and became the Georgia Normal and Agricultural College. It continued to grow and in 1932, when the Board of Regents was established, it became part of the University System of Georgia. The mission was expanded in 1943, and it became a four-year college and assumed the name Albany State College. In 1981 the college offered its first graduate program and in 1996 its name was changed to Albany State University.
