Position Introduction
The Department of Art at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Asian Art, beginning Fall 2024.

Position Description
We seek an innovative historian of Asian art. Field of specialization is open; preference will be given to candidates with expertise in multiple regions and/or cultures, including East Asia. The ability to teach art and architecture is desirable; as is research that engages with digital humanities. The position involves teaching the equivalent of five courses each academic year (4 courses the first year) including participation in the team-taught survey course of the history of art, which includes a lecture cycle on Asian art.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Art History or a related field in hand by time of appointment and show a commitment to undergraduate education. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Asian art, broadly defined, with specialized instruction in the areas of their expertise. We seek scholars who can teach dynamically in an undergraduate liberal arts setting and who would welcome the opportunity to participate in the development of the curriculum of the Art Department. We expect participation, teaching and thesis advising in our thriving, multidisciplinary Asian Studies Program. There is also opportunity for collaborative work with the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center.

Salary Wage Range
Pay Transparency Disclosure: The annual base starting salary range for this position is $89,000 to $99,000 (USD). This range includes new faculty appointments beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock as well as Assistant Professors with previous tenure-line experience who will be on an accelerated tenure clock. When extending an offer of employment, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidate’s education/training, work experience, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting. The starting salary for an Assistant Professor in this position with a PhD beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock in Fall 2024 is $93,000.
