The Training Specialist for Student Affairs Professional Development (TSPD) is a member of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs’ staff and has responsibility for leading the professional development programs and initiatives for the division of Student Affairs. The TSPD reports to the Chief of Staff to the VPSA. Primary responsibilities include curating, developing, and coordinating Student Affairs professional development and training topics, curriculum development, and resource development, as well as developing and implementing programming to foster community building and recognition of staff contributions. All efforts will have goals and outcomes that align with ACPA/NASPA Competencies, as well as the Hopkins Student Affairs divisional priorities, and/or Aspirations for Student Learning. The TSPD will intentionally build upon the existing community building and professional development opportunities including the annual All Staff Meeting, monthly professional development workshops, book clubs, and End of the Year Celebration.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Key Job functions
- Assess staff needs and desires regarding professional development; establish a system for collecting such information annually.
- Develop and implement a robust calendar of program offerings to develop the skills, knowledge, and connections among Student Affairs professionals at all levels of the organization.
- Create opportunities for staff to be in community with each other and to celebrate the work of Student Affairs colleagues.
- Build and maintain a repository of professional organizations and events we expect staff to engage both to stay current on best practices and to build networks in the functional areas.
Specific responsibilities
- Develop and publish a semesterly calendar of professional development offerings (monthly programs).
- Facilitate the implementation of the Aspirations Celebrations (5 times a year).
- Coordinate the Annual End of the Year Staff Celebration.
- Convene committee to develop a structure for celebrating staff accomplishments (awards, service recognition, etc.).
- Coordinate the Welcome to the Nest orientation program for new Student Affairs staff.

- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Three years' experience in education or related setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in higher education/student affairs, organizational development, human resources, or related field.
