Department Summary:

Media arts and digital media platforms play a significant role in society by providing both entertainment and information in a constantly changing world. In a rapidly evolving marketplace, the Department of Media Arts prepares students with a wide range of knowledge and skills for careers in traditional media (broadcasting, film production) and emerging media. Media Arts students are provided a liberal arts education combined with hands-on experience utilizing similar tools used by industry professionals. The department’s faculty includes top scholars along with current and former media practitioners with many years of experience. The Media Arts undergraduate major provides a comprehensive background in media production, along with courses devoted to writing, industry studies, history, and critical/cultural studies. The CBCM undergraduate major provides a comprehensive background in media convergence, web-based production of news and information. For the graduate degrees, Critical-Cultural Studies aims to help students wishing to develop critical thinking and writing skills with a goal of proceeding to a PhD or increasing professional skills. Industry Studies prepares students for PhD programs or advanced media industry positions. The Master of Arts is designed as a two-year program while the Master of Fine Arts is a three-year terminal degree program in Documentary Production and Studies.

Position Overview:

This position involves purchasing of lab equipment and supplies, technical decisions related to the support of the lab areas, classrooms, hardware and domain administration for department servers and users. This position works directly with the Media Arts Chair, Inventory Coordinator, and Production Committee to meet departmental goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and four years of audio, video, or interactive media production experience; prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of principles of audio, video, and interactive media production.
• Ability to manage the work of others.
• Considerable knowledge of audio and video recording techniques.
• Ability to interpret instrument and meter readings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematic drawings, etc.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in equipment or software.
• Some positions may require knowledge of copyright law and its applications to A/V materials.
• Experience supervising, training and managing employees.
• Understanding of proper equipment maintenance practices.
• Experience prioritizing various technical needs.

Mon thru Fri; 8am to 5pm.

Administering & maintaining PC/MAC computer hardware/software for Department Edit Labs and classrooms.


Troubleshooting, repairing and networking audio hardware, software and intranet/internet connectivity.


Serving as departmental point of contact for IT, Datacom, and Facilities


Recommending audio hardware based upon departmental or area needs


Administering and maintaining electronic systems supporting the delivery of classroom audio/video/multimedia content.


Interfacing with Department faculty to specify and implement changes to Edit Lab and classroom technology.


Maintains and monitors departmental websites.


Coordinates with Asset coordinator for annual inventory and computer roll-outs.
