Description:
The Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track, Instructional Assistant or Associate Professor in Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI), beginning August 2024.  

 

Chapman University is a nationally-ranked, R2 Carnegie Classified, private institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the heart of Orange County, one of Southern California’s most diverse and vibrant regions. Chapman’s campuses are home to nearly 10,000 students representing 50 states, three territories, and 78 countries. The 11 schools and colleges of Chapman, including Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, offer 65 bachelors, 53 master, and six doctoral programs, along with nearly 60 minors and 17 accelerated and bridge programs. The CCI interdisciplinary program is housed in Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the current minor draws students from a variety of majors. A future major is planned, and the Center for CCI offers support for student publications, conference presentations, and creative practice. Candidates with expertise in any area of CCI are welcome to apply, but applications from those with expertise in any of the following are particularly encouraged: 

  • Fashion 
  • Digital Media (including gaming and/or social media) 
  • Cultural management 
  • Festivals and creative place making

Responsibilities   

• Plan, develop, and deliver high-quality courses in area of expertise. 

• Offer regular office hours to provide students with opportunities for one-on-one consultations, academic advising, and clarification of course materials. 

• Participate in advising for students, helping them select appropriate courses and develop academic plans. 

• Contribute to the overall mission of the institution by attending program meetings and supporting campus-wide initiatives and events. 

• Serve on academic committees or task forces within the institution, contributing to discussions and decisions related to academic policies, curriculum development, and other relevant matters. 


Qualifications:
 

Required 

• PhD in appropriate field or equivalent Masters terminal degree and industry experience. 

• In-depth knowledge and expertise in the subject area or discipline related to the courses they will be teaching. 

• Evidence of excellence in teaching and a student-centered approach to teaching, including the ability to provide support and guidance to students. 

 

Preferred 

• Experience teaching courses in one of the preferred areas (fashion, digital media, cultural management, creative place making). 

• Experience collaborating with colleagues and academic administrators on curriculum development and institutional initiatives. 

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
