Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track Instructional Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Policy beginning August 1, 2024.

The Environmental Science and Policy major is a joint program between Wilkinson College and Schmid College of Science and Technology. The Environmental Studies minor resides within Wilkinson College. This position is housed within Interdisciplinary Programs within Wilkinson College.

Responsibilities 

This position will support both the Environmental Science and Policy major and the Environmental Studies minor. Candidates who examine the issues of climate change and water resource management from an interdisciplinary perspective are especially encouraged to apply, as are candidates with expertise in environmental justice.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the lower-division Introduction to Environmental Policy course and developing new upper-division courses for the major and minor related to their area of expertise.
  • Update and deliver multiple sections of a lower-division Introduction to Environmental Policy course.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver new upper-division courses related to the candidate’s area of expertise, to be included in the revised Environmental Science and Policy curriculum and Environmental Studies minor.
  • Advising and mentoring students majoring or minoring in Environmental Science and Policy and Environmental Studies.
  • Service to the college and university.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom by creating an inclusive and welcoming learning environment that respects and values the perspectives of all students.

Qualifications:

 

Required

  • A Ph.D. in a humanistic or social scientific discipline (e.g., anthropology, history, political science, sociology, environmental studies) or a related field.
  • Record of successful teaching.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching introductory lecture courses related to environmental policy.
  • A commitment to applying evidence-based and student-centered instructional approaches that promote a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues, department chairs, and academic administrators on curriculum development and institutional initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
