Unit Mission Statement:The Center for Gifted Education is a learning community that values and fosters the talent development process and optimal functioning of high-ability individuals over their life span.
Position Summary:The Camp Nurse will provide appropriate assessment and oversee treatment of medical problems in the camp’s participating student community. The Camp Nurse will review all medical files on students to ensure they take their medication at the appropriate times and are always available in the event of an emergency. Shifts are 8 hours (or 12 hours) for the duration of the camp. The Camp Nurse may be required to stay in the dorm. The Camp Nurse will present on clinical protocols and universal precautions at the Counselors’ Orientation. The Camp Nurse will assist in the development of medical policies and procedures and additional documents, as needed. Also, the Camp Nurse will treat students for medical issues, and help prevent physical issues and disease.
Conditions of Employment:This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
This position is a temporary (hourly) position not to exceed 6 months. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed on average 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.
This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.

Required Qualifications:- Graduate from an accredited U.S. Nursing program with an RN or LPN license in good standing with the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Clinical experience in a related medical/clinical setting or in a public school system
