Grant Funded Position: Yes

Schedule Information: Can work one or more 6-7 hours shifts, M-Th afternoon to evening, Friday, or Saturday

Benefits: Hourly contingent position without benefits.

Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Work may involve lifting supplies or equipment and moving it about the laboratories.

Duties of Position: Supervises the activities of the Diagnostic Sonography Imaging Lab under the guidance of the program coordinator, and faculty.

Performs their duties as described in the Diagnostic Imaging Lab Manual to facilitate the retention and progression of students in the Diagnostic Sonography Programs.

Provides informal evaluation of student proficiencies or imaging work. Provides prescriptive tutoring and practice plans to students in need or referred by their lab instructor.

Engages in professional development by arranging a colleague (instructor or lab specialist) to shadow them one time per year.

Remains knowledgeable of and enforces diagnostic sonography lab policy and procedure as outlined in the lab manual. Assigns professional skill violations to students failing to adhere to policy, procedure, or professionalism.

Remains knowledgeable of instructional lab content and stays in communication with the lab instructors to best assist students needing tutoring or assistance during diagnostic imaging open (practice) lab hours.

Maintains the security of the diagnostic lab and equipment. Circulates the lab for security purposes.

Participates in safety hazard training and are familiar with safety protocols including the location of the defibrillator, fire extinguisher, tornado safety areas and emergency evacuation routes.

Supervises the imaging of outside clients. Refers subjects with notable ultrasound findings to the lead instructors per program policy.

Maintains the diagnostic sonography lab areas in a neat and orderly condition.

  • Restocks rooms daily
  • Performs inventory, utilizing the shared supply list on the program blackboard site
  • Communicates supply and laundry needs to the lab assistant
  • Unpacks and stores supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains pagers; replacing batteries as indicated (see program blackboard site)

Operates ultrasound, instructional, and archiving equipment/systems used in the Diagnostic Imaging Lab. Instructs students regarding their use.

Communicates equipment issues to the lab assistant and program coordinator. Documents issues on the shared drive.

Regularly deletes unlocked studies on the system hard drives. Clean system filters regularly (see instructions on program blackboard site). Comprehensive cleaning of imaging equipment as needed.

Ensures the efficient transfer of ultrasound images and studies performed by the student, involving the program coordinator, IT, and UltraLinq as appropriate.

Monitors Schedulicity, the online appointment book students use to schedule practice hours in the Diagnostic Sonography Imaging Lab. Ensures students are moving in and out of the labs in a timely manner.

Assists students with procedural and technology issues.

Performs additional related duties as assigned by the program coordinator and faculty. Assists the lab assistant as appropriate to meet student instructional needs.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate degree with 400 to 800 documented clinical hours specific to the concentration(s) that s/he tutors
  • The appropriate credential(s) specific to the concentration(s) that s/he tutors
  • Bachelor’s degree and one-year clinical experience specific to the concentration(s) that s/he tutors preferred.
  • Remain active clinically while in the role
