Pacific University Oregon

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Forest Grove, Oregon

Pacific University Oregon seeks an experienced and visionary provost and vice president for academic affairs (provost) and invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations of candidates for this role.

The university is a multicultural learning community offering a unique combination of programs in the arts and sciences, education, business, optometry, and health professions. Pacific's leadership is ready to meet the current challenges in higher education with a wide range of programs and creative curricula.

Pacific is moving toward becoming a Hispanic-Serving Institution and currently is an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution. The provost must be deeply committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. The incoming provost should also be a strong communicator with superb management skills who possesses a collaborative and open leadership style. In addition, the provost should value Pacific's mission and its focus on facilitating the success of diverse students on myriad dimensions.

In July of 2022, the university welcomed Dr. Jenny Coyle as the institution's 18th president. Her goals for Pacific include raising its standing on a regional and national stage, increasing enrollment, and putting the university on a stronger financial footing. To achieve these ambitions, the new provost will report to President Coyle as a member of the President's senior staff and will lead the academic affairs team as they continue Pacific's rich history of serving a diverse undergraduate and graduate/professional student body. They will also oversee Pacific's five colleges, the University libraries, athletics, institutional research, the office of scholarship and sponsored projects, and international programs.

The next provost must lead with vision, empathy, and care for the intellectual growth and personal well-being of Pacific's students. The ideal candidate will be an authentic, relationship-oriented, and experienced academic leader, with demonstrated success in bridging gaps and fostering connection and inclusivity. Outstanding leadership, exemplary interpersonal skills, and expert strategic planning experience are essential, as are financial acumen and the ability to promote a culture of mutual trust and respect, collaboration, and transparency. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated leadership in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and global engagement. Experience at the level of provost, dean, vice provost, department chair, center director, or equivalent is expected, as is an earned doctorate or terminal academic degree and a record of scholarly or creative achievement that would merit appointment as full professor.

All applications, nominations, and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a CV or resume and a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile available at www.wittkieffer.com.

WittKieffer is assisting Pacific University in this search, which will remain open until an appointment is made. Application materials should be submitted using WittKieffer's candidate portal.
