The Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies at Chapman University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies, starting August 2024. This position will be affiliated with the Ph.D. in Education program, Leadership Studies emphasis, and will teach as needed in the Master of Arts in Leadership Development and undergraduate Leadership Minor. This is a full-time, tenure-track position that requires work to be performed in the State of California and has in-person teaching responsibilities and required on-campus availability at Chapman’s Orange campus.
- Advise and serve on dissertation and qualifying exam committees for students in the Ph.D. in Education Program.
- Contribute as an integral member of the Attallah College faculty in the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of our degree programs, particularly the Ph.D. in Education Program.
- Perform service to the unit, college, university, profession, and wider community as expected of a tenure-track faculty member.
- Provide academic advising and professional mentorship to students and alumni, including participation in the recruitment and admission of candidates to the programs.
- Seek, obtain, and manage external funding to support research efforts.
- Teach courses primarily related to leadership studies, dissertation planning, and dissertation support.
Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service. Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a highly qualified and experienced researcher and instructor with experience teaching and advising in areas relevant to leadership studies. Required qualifications:
- An earned doctorate by start of employment in Leadership Studies, Educational Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Community-Based Leadership, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated ability to build beneficial and productive working relationships within the university and public education communities.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and multicultural competence in education and must be willing to contribute to the University’s DEI plans.
- Emerging record of research and publication.
- The expertise and experience to successfully teach multiple courses on leadership studies across one or more of the graduate and undergraduate leadership programs in the Attallah College of Educational Studies.
- Knowledge and ability to successfully mentor masters and doctoral level students and to chair dissertation committees.
- Evidence of successful teaching and advising, including at the graduate level.
- Evidence of supporting PhD students from varying professional backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative research.
- Experience seeking grants and managing sponsored projects.
- Experience serving and/or teaching in underserved communities.
- Experience with developing and implementing innovative teaching practices.
- Experience with developing and implementing educational programs in collaboration with local communities, TK-12 schools, and/or community colleges.
- Experience with technology to enhance educational environments.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: leadership theory, educational policy, teacher leadership, qualitative methods, arts based methods, equity and social justice, and civic and community engagement.
- Ability to engage in the program assessment process.
- Active involvement in professional organizations.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
