Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research engineer within UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering

The UCD Energy Institute is one of Irelands leading energy research institutes investigation all aspects of the energy transition. In collaboration with Gas networks Ireland the UCD Energy Institute is investigating the role of green hydrogen in Ireland energy future. GNI have established a Gas Network Innovation Centre in Brownsbarn AGI, Dublin as as part of this set up are investigating Hydrogen and Green gasses on Irelands Gas Netowk. The successful candidate will work as part of the research team in collaboration with Gas Networks Ireland investigating the inclusion of a blend of Hydrogen into distribution network.

  • The role involves pressure and leak Testing of equipment and devices commonly found on Ireland's Gas distribution network.

  • Investigation and testing d the effect of hydrogen and odorant in hydrogen blends on materials found in the Irish gas network.

  • Developing and testing models for standard leak estimation for gas networks contains hydrogen and hydrogen blends.

  • Reviewing and updating in service tightness criteria to qualify componends for installation for networks contain hydrogen blends

The project will include working with engineers from both UCD and GNI with test taking place in both locations.

Fixed salary: €42,733 Per annum
