Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position SummaryThe College of Nursing is seeking temporary research assistants to assist with a variety of tasks related to various research grants/assignments. Each position will be slightly different, however overall the tasks will be similar in variety and complexity. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE is required. We have a variety of faculty and staff that will train on each duty assigned.
The College of Nursing research topics are Symptom science development for self-management of chronic conditions; Health promotion and risk reduction. Examples of these research areas are:
- Feasibility & efficacy of online meditation training for caregivers of patients with advanced cancer
- Benefits of complementary therapies for symptom management among cancer patients
- Development of a toolkit to help cancer patients better self-manage their treatment and symptoms
- Use of apps to promote exercise in at-risk populations
- Promoting adolescent exercise to prevent weight problems or obesity
- The impact of stress on childhood obesity
Responsibilities will vary per grant; however duties may include but will not be limited to:
- Maintain schedule in Outlook
- Schedule meetings
- Data collection
- Data analysis
- Development of procedures
- Data entry
- Transportation of supplies to sites
- Contacting study participants
- General office duties
- Scheduling project meetings
- Notetaking
- Conduct literature reviews and searches
- Prepare a variety of materials for the grant
- Prepare reports as needed
- Draft communication
- Proofreads documents for accuracy
- Room reservations/event planning
- Assisting faculty with grant work as needed
- Plan for conference travel
- Provide monthly budget reports
The rate of pay will be between $12-$30/hour, depending on duties and grant/assignment funding. The average amount of hours per week will be between 20-40 and will typically be between the hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends might be warranted, depending on the needs of the grant/assignment assigned. The positions are scheduled to start immediately with a length of employment up to 9 months with the possibility of extension, dependent on grant/assignment funding. Each position will vary with the amount of on-campus presence needed. As the College is submitting grants and receiving funding there is the possibility that one or more of these positions could lead to a support staff position, including benefits.
