The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a part-time faculty member to teach a laboratory section for an introductory Cell Biology course for the Spring 2024 semester.Employment Conditions:
BIOL 210, Cells and Systems, is taken as a course by Biology and Biochemistry majors, generally in the spring of the freshman year. The course covers basic concepts of cell biology such as protein and membrane structure, transport, enzymes, metabolism, secretion, signal transduction, etc. In the laboratory, students measure protein concentrations, enzyme activity, ammonium uptake, signal transduction, and photosynthesis by spectrophotometry and also learn microscopy, mitosis, and other topics. Students are evaluated primarily by keeping notebooks and also write two lab reports in scientific manuscript style. The lab meets Thursday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and will have up to 24 students. Spring semester runs from January 8 through April 26, 2024. The successful candidate will have an MS degree or equivalent (e.g., PhD candidate) in a related area and teaching experience. A PhD is desirable.
