Description:

The Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. We are seeking scholars with an expertise in working in low- or middle-income countries (LMICs) investigating, evaluating, and implementing programs to prevent or intervene in psychiatric disorders across the lifespan. Additional expertise in substance use and comorbid medical conditions such as HIV is desirable. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include directing a course on implementation of evidence-based practices in LMICs and lecturing on this area in other courses.

Clinical responsibilities may include providing clinical administrative support to implement evidence-based practices in LMICs, and direct patient care if appropriate.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include an independent research program implementing evidence-based practices in LMICs and expanding and directing an emerging program in implementation science and global mental health in the Department of Psychiatry (https://www.med.upenn.edu/psychiatry/).

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty in other Penn departments, centers, and institutes, particularly the Penn Implementation Science Center at the Leonard Davis Institute (PISCE@LDI), which is tasked with building Penn’s capacity in implementation research, education, and practice. There also are opportunities to collaborate with the Penn Mental Health AIDS Research Center and Penn Center for AIDS Research. Applicants in mid-career with established records of scholarly activity and/or research programs are encouraged to apply.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.

Vision

As engines of knowledge and new ideas, universities have the unique potential to define the future rather than be defined by it; to pioneer change rather than merely manage it. To do so requires a plan both visionary and pragmatic. The Penn Compact 2022 motivates community members to innovate, be radically inclusive, and positively impact their local, national, and global communities.

Penn’s fundamental priorities — increasing access, integrating knowledge and engaging locally, nationally and globally — are supported by the three core values that make us uniquely Penn: inclusion, innovation, and impact.
