Description:

The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific areas of computational imaging and analysis, machine learning, and AI. Strong expertise in AI methodology and its applications in imaging are needed. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent degree in engineering or applied mathematics, or a related discipline.

Teaching responsibilities may include the development of course content; teaching and mentoring students, trainees, residents, and interns; and assisting graduate students and visiting scholars, primarily in the laboratory setting.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include image computing and analytics, machine learning, and AI, as well as applications to various clinical fields, as well as supervision of Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows. Areas of particular strength at AI2D include big-data imaging AI for cancer and clinical neuroscience.

A history of and willingness to be part of collaborative research in image computing, analytics and AI, and clinical application are essential components of the position. Experience in grant writing and prior success in obtaining grant funding would be an asset. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interact with several centers and institutes at Penn, especially the IDEAS and ASSET centers in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the Institute for Bioinformatics (IBI) at the Perelman School of Medicine, at the University of Pennsylvania.

Many opportunities for collaborations with clinical groups in Radiology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Psychiatry, and other departments are in place, as well as collaborations with the Divisions of Biostatistics and Informatics. Cross-departmental appointments are likely to be offered, depending on the candidate’s area of expertise.
