POSITION: Assistant Professor of English-Creative Writing
Stetson University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor of English-Creative Writing; the successful candidate will hold the position of Director of the MFA of the Americas Program, the distinctive low-residency graduate program in creative writing in the English Department and College of the Arts and Sciences. The position is a tenure track, twelve-month appointment and features the MFA academic calendar and two ten-day residencies, which occur in December and May.
We seek a dedicated teacher-scholar with administrative experience who can guide our MFA of the Americas creative writing program. An MFA in Creative Writing is required along with a record of publications in prose. The successful candidate should have three to five years of administrative/management experience and college-level teaching experience. Experience in organizing program travel outside of the United States is preferred. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or interest in engaging students from diverse backgrounds.
In this twelve-month position, the MFA Program Director is responsible for the academic excellence and vitality of the MFA program, including a curriculum and structure that aligns with AWP hallmarks for low-residency programs. The MFA Program Director is responsible for administering the program: this will include coordinating two annual MFA residences, one of which is local, overseeing admissions, recruiting, and marketing, supervising staff and MFA adjuncts, and handling the budgeting.
This position also includes teaching two creative writing (ENCW) classes in prose each year.
The successful candidate should demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching, combined with a record of creative publications in prose. Creative activity leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals and service to the Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, the University, and the profession are required. The MFA of the Americas is designed to develop writers whose creative practice embodies an expanded notion of inquiry, making, contexts and kinships. Since 1995, the Sullivan Creative Writing program has sponsored curriculum, student scholarships and faculty support for creative practitioners who make work using text.

DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 38,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.
