Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:The Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University is accepting applications for a Visiting Instructor of Accounting with an emphasis in Principles of Accounting and Intermediate Accounting who is competent in instructing students. The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree/Doctoral ABD in Accounting or related discipline from an AACSB-accredited Program. This is a 9-month visiting position with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate level. Courses will be assigned based on the education and/or professional qualifications.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:Ability to mentor and relate well with students
- Teach undergraduate courses in Accounting.
- Enhance teaching, conducting scholarly research, and/or rendering professional services to a level necessary for the maintenance of the School’s SACS and AACSB accreditation.
- Active participation in departmental, school and university committees.
- Service to one’s profession and the surrounding community.
- Advise, recruit, retain, and mentor students.
- Maintain engagement with appropriate accounting professionals and professional organizations.
- Assist with curriculum development and licensing opportunities for students in accounting.
- Coordinate all activities in the accounting/accounting-related disciplines.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.by department chair and Dean.

Hiring Range:Commensurate with experience.
Education:The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of Master’s degree/Doctoral ABD in Accounting or related discipline from an AACSB-accredited Program.
Required Licensing/Certification:Any professional license in accounting will be desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:
- Policies, procedures, and practices.
- Current software and applications in Insurance and Risk Management.
Skill in:
- Microsoft Office.
- Effective customer service.
- Problem-solving and decision-making.
- Multitasking and time management.
- Both verbal and written communication.
Ability to:
- Work with a diverse student population.
- Maintain involvement in appropriate professional organizations.
Preferred:Strong educational and corporate experience in the accounting area is preferred. Previous experience in the development and teaching of university curricula in the general area of accounting is strongly preferred.
Working/Environmental Conditions:- Prolonged standing and/or walking.
- Handling light weight objects
- Using or carrying equipment.
