Job Description:

The Department of Health Education and Behavior (HEB), College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications and nominations for a full-time, non-tenure-earning, Instructional Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. UF is a dynamic Carnegie Foundation Research University that educates approximately 60,000 students annually. In 2023, UF ranked No. 1 among public institutions by the Wall Street Journal, and No. 6 by U.S. News and World Reports. The Department of HEB (https://hhp.ufl.edu/about/departments/heb/) currently enrolls 432 undergraduate majors, 101 graduate students, and 22 full-time faculty members. The focus of the Department of Health Education and Behavior is to prepare students to promote healthy lifestyle choices in individual and group settings, and among diverse populations using theoretically sound health education methodologies. Additionally, the Department seeks to prepare health care and health education professionals capable of assessing individual and community health education needs; developing, planning and implementing effective health education programs; evaluating health education program effectiveness; coordinating the provision of health education services; acting as a resource person in health education; and communicating health/health education needs, concerns, and resources.

This nine-month, full-time, non-tenure-earning faculty (1.0 FTE) position will begin August 16, 2024, continuing through May 15, 2025, and is renewable on a yearly basis. Summer teaching opportunities are often available, but not guaranteed, and UF has a competitive benefits package.

The primary position responsibility is teaching required and elective courses in health education and behavior at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching component of the position will include both residential and online courses with an expected maximum teaching assignment of four courses per semester (or equivalent assignments of effort in teaching and service), supervising theses, and student mentoring. Involvement in service and governance at the department, college, and university levels is also expected. Successful applicants will be given opportunities and time to expand the breadth of their teaching experience and to develop new coursework and educational programs. This is a working title and duties may vary.

Master or Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES® or CHES®) or Certified Public Health (CPH) is preferred. Previous experience as an instructor of record, developing online courses, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students also is preferred. We seek applicants who are passionate and enthusiastic about teaching and student learning to empower our students to make impactful economic, cultural, and societal contributions and whose educational contributions rest on contemporary science and practice in health education and behavior.
