Job Description:

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 16, 2024, in the History of Modern Philosophy.

The successful candidate will pursue an active research agenda in the History of Modern Philosophy and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession. Tenure -line faculty are typically assigned four courses per academic year at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants who wish to be considered at the rank of Associate Professor must have an established record of high-quality research and the ability to contribute significantly to graduate education.

The department has recently grown with multiple hires in the last several years. It is committed to ensuring a robust coverage of all the core areas of philosophy, though it has developed special strength in the ethics of technology and artificial intelligence. This latter strength has enabled the department to play a critical role in UF's AI initiative (, both in teaching and research, including interdisciplinary research. Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package, including state- and university-sponsored benefits programs for individuals, families, and domestic partners, and offers voluntary insurance that includes vision, dental, long-term disability and more.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications:

An active research agenda in the area of Modern Philosophy, as well as experience in teaching Modern Philosophy.
