The University of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track position (Assistant/Associate) in the College of Education with a focus on qualitative research methodology. These faculty will join a collaborative, cohesive, and energetic community of scholars within the College that is committed to research and scholarship, high quality teaching, and professional service.

We seek candidates with a program of research centered on qualitative methodology. Applicants should have expertise in a diverse range of qualitative research approaches. Applicants should be highly promising scholars able to serve as a core faculty member in the Research and Evaluation Methodology program within the College and contribute substantially to the college's qualitative research methodological offerings. The specific education discipline and area of qualitative methodology expertise is open and should contribute to our rich tradition of doctoral preparation and excellence in scholarship as reflected by a focus on issues of national and international relevance and importance.

The successful applicant for this tenure-track position is expected to maintain a clear, rigorous line of research and contribute to the national and international visibility of the College of Education and respective program area. This 9-month faculty appointment will begin August 2024 and include the possibility of summer employment.

  • Conduct scholarly activities commensurate with expectations of tenure-track faculty at a leading research university, including publishing in respected refereed scholarly journals
  • Vigorously pursue external funding in collaboration with colleagues within and outside of the College of Education
  • Advise, engage, and mentor graduate students in diverse qualitative research traditions in PhD and EdD programs
  • Teach (face-to-face, blended, and/or online) a variety of graduate level qualitative research courses integrated with discourses in qualitative pedagogies
  • Participate in professional pedagogical activities, including but not limited to, professional development of teaching practices and teaching qualitative research workshops within the College of Education
  • Collaborate with colleagues regarding course development, program development, and development of the Qualitative Research Student Organization
  • Provide service to the program, college, and university
  • Actively engage with and/or provide leadership and other service in relevant professional communities

    Expected Salary:

    Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Doctorate in educational methodology or a program of study centered on qualitative research methodologies
    • Evidence of understanding multiple qualitative research traditions via scholarship or teaching, mentoring, and service activities
    • Evidence of a well-articulated methodological research agenda
    • Record of methodological scholarship as demonstrated through publications and presentations at national and international conferences (commensurate with experience)
    • Record of teaching experience in higher education (commensurate with experience), preferably in the areas of qualitative research methodologies or other closely related subject areas
    • Evidence of pursuing or securing funding to support research activities (commensurate with experience)

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience via distance education and other technology-assisted instruction
  • Knowledge of digital technologies to assist with qualitative research
  • Working knowledge of qualitative evaluation approaches
  • Program/Certificate building experience in qualitative research or a related area (commensurate with experience)
  • Record of mentoring dissertations in various qualitative research traditions (commensurate with experience)
