The Position: Associate or Tenured Full Professor of Ethnic Studies

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience. (Anticipated hiring range: $90,000 to $103,000 for Associate – $103,000 to $115,000 for Full per year).

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D., Ed.D, or J.D., in a relevant discipline, with a strong record of research, teaching, and service in one or more of the fields covered in the department of Multicultural and Gender Studies (i.e., Ethnic Studies, American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, African American Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies). Candidates must document proven excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Responsibilities:

Pursuing research and/or creative activities; teaching a variety of courses in their area of specialization in addition to General Education within Multicultural & Gender Studies through an intersectional lens and through various formats (i.e., in-person, online, hybrid); and service within the department, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, university and broader community. The typical course load per semester is four courses. The successful candidate will increase the number of majors and minors in the department in both the regular and online programs; mentor students and early career colleagues through the Retention, Tenure and Promotion process; develop an Ethnic Studies Program; and advise the department, college, and campus in its strategic initiatives. The Department:

Multicultural and Gender Studies is the academic department housing Ethnic Studies, Women’s Studies, and Queer and Trans Studies. We are a single department of diverse scholars and activists working together to critically examine gender, sexuality, socioeconomic class, ability, race, and ethnicity to cultivate social justice through informed activism. MCGS offers three majors, eight minors, and an online degree completion program, with the majority of students taking courses as part of the new Area F General Education requirement created under AB 1460, with faculty hired due to this statute. Additional Information:

Those hired at the Associate level should expect to be hired as a probationary tenure-track employee with possible credit of up to two years served. Those hired at the Full Professor level shall be hired as a tenured employee.
