Position Overview
The University of Missouri, a proud member of the SEC and Missouri’s flagship university, is actively seeking a visible, visionary, and dynamic leader to serve as the next Director of MizzouRec. This crucial role will require comprehensive leadership skills, overseeing both professional and student staff, financial strategy, risk management, facility management, strategic planning, and fostering collaborative partnerships. As the Director, you will play a pivotal role in helping advance the mission of the Division of Student Affairs, contributing to increased student engagement, retention, and overall student success.

Job Description
Leadership and Team Management:

  • Provide leadership to a team of 26 professional and over 400 student staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, and inclusivity within the department.
  • Promote the continued professional development and the overall well-being of team members.

Facility Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day management and maintenance of all MizzouRec facilities including the 300,000 sq. ft. Student Recreation Complex, Stankowski Field, 2 natural grass recreation and competition fields, Venture Out high ropes course and the MU Rec Trail.
  • Ensure facilities are safe, accessible, and inspiring for all users.
  • Ensure that MizzouRec continues to serve as a focal point of the co-curricular classroom experience by continuously assessing the quality of our spaces.

Financial Strategy:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing the annual operating budget of approximately $10M.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive revenue generation strategies that balance external revenue with the preservation of facility access for students.
  • Identify and cultivate revenue-generating opportunities through partnerships, sponsorships, and community engagement.

Risk Management:

  • Overall responsibility for department risk management practices including 40 sports clubs.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Risk Management to develop and implement policies, procedures, and practices that maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all users.
  • Continuously monitor and improve facility safety and risk management practices.

Strategic Planning:

  • Ensure MizzouRec’s programs and services contribute to the overall goals of the institution, including student recruitment and retention by developing and implementing a strategic plan aligned with division and university goals.
  • Partner with the Student Affairs team to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and adjust as needed to meet changing needs and objectives.

Long Term Capital Planning:

  • Partner with campus facilities and division finances teams to update and continue the implementation of long-term facility maintenance and enhancement plans.
  • Prioritize projects of the greatest need and impact to maximize these funds.
  • MizzouRec currently has a healthy capital fund, recently completed $4M in capital projects and has $7M in upcoming projects in the next year.

Student Affairs Collaboration:

  • Expand relationships with Student Affairs partners including but not limited to Student Health & Wellbeing, Residential Life and the Center for Student Involvement to offer programming to students inside and outside of MizzouRec.
  • Seek opportunities to work with Student Affairs partners to utilize spaces at MizzouRec facilities for programming.
  • Work closely with shared service teams in Student Affairs including Assessment, Finance, Human Resources and Marketing/Communication to leverage the expertise of these administrative services to enhance the mission and offerings of MizzouRec.

Campus and Community Collaboration:

  • Foster productive working relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Seek out and engage in collaborative initiatives that enhance the student experience, support community wellness, and promote MizzouRec's mission and values.
  • Collaborate with partners on joint programs, events, and initiatives

The MizzouRec Director work schedule varies.  In addition to working Monday through Friday, the individual must be available and responsive during MizzouRec service hours and to provide after-hour crisis management.


Salary Range: $76,279-$135,000, commensurate with education and experience

University Title: Director II Student Support Services

Grade: GGS-13
