Job Summary

This position will provide a wide variety of operational, instructional, and administrative laboratory support services for faculty and students. The Laboratory Instructor identifies, enhances, and follows specific processes and procedures to maximize the efficiencies of clinical activities conducted in the laboratory; ensures the correct functioning of facilities and equipment; uses independent judgement, discretion, and advanced technical and operation skill to ensure quality lab experiences for students. Participates in practical examinations and assists with program planning and evaluation when needed.

Responsibilities

·Work collaboratively to provide clinical lab instruction and support (60%)

oPrepares classroom and lab materials for classes/labs and clean up/restore classroom and lab areas

oTeach selected OT and Rehab Science skills as assigned by faculty members

oAssists in the development of instruction materials for clinical labs and practical examinations

oAssists in all OT and Rehab Science clinical lab instruction

oCoordinates OT and Rehab Science practical examination schedules

oAssumes the role of the client in OT and Rehab Science practical examinations

oGrades selected OT and Rehab Science lab assignments as requested by faculty

oAssists with scheduling guest speakers for labs

oCoordinates and implement open lab opportunities for OT and Rehab Science students

oPerforms related duties as assigned

·Provides clinical laboratory support services (30%)

oCoordinates clinical activities in an instructional laboratory, providing support services to faculty and students

oDevelops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of the laboratory

oEvaluates lab equipment as used on a weekly/monthly basis

oCollaborates with faculty to ensure that equipment and operational needs are met

oProvides support and assistance related to facilities and equipment issues and repairs

oInventory relevant lab equipment each semester (i.e. splinting and pediatric labs, etc.)

oAssists with the coordination of clinical fieldtrips; provide supervision on fieldtrips when appropriate

oAssists with the ordering, purchasing, inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab

oOrganizes classrooms an laboratory rooms

oMaintains PPE supply and ensure correct usage

oPerforms related duties as assigned

·Performs a variety of related duties (10%)

oCollaborates on the preparation of a variety of reports, including program evaluation, accreditation reports, graduate surveys, etc.

oAnswers telephone calls and emails; determines nature of requests and responds accordingly

oParticipates in Professional Behavior Assessments as requested

oAssists in student advising

oParticipates in professional development including continuing education for state licensure

oPerforms related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Currently licensed and certification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with 3 years of clinical experience as an OT or OTA.
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work independently in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy intervention techniques across the life span
  • Skill in use of occupational therapy equipment and assessment tools
  • Knowledge of the field of rehabilitation science
  • Skill in hands-on instruction
  • High level of professionalism
  • Skill in conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and time management
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work
  • Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier
  • Skill in oral and written communication

Other Information
  • The work consists of lab coordination, maintenance, instruction, and related administrative duties. Interactions with students, frequently updated standards of practice, and flexible scheduling contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • This position requires weekend work approximately four times per semester. Travel to fieldtrip and/or fieldwork sites is also required.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide lab instruction and administrative support for the OT and Rehabilitation Science Programs. Successful performance helps ensure the efficiency of those operations.
