Position Summary
The University of Alabama Chief Nursing Officer, College of Community Health Sciences The University of Alabama's College of Community Health Sciences seeks a strategic and collaborative clinical nurse leader as the next Chief Nursing Officer, University Medical Center. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced nurse executive to join an organization that plays a vital role in providing health care and wellness in rural Alabama.

Detailed Position Information
Reporting to the Dean, College of Community Health Sciences, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) provides executive leadership in all matters pertaining to nursing practice and nursing administration and ensures that these components of the healthcare delivery process contribute to the strategic and operational goals of the College. The CNO has direct oversight of approximately 100 employees across UMC, UA Student Health Center, and Brewer-Porch Children's Center, including nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and support staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Requirements include a DNP or PhD and a minimum of ten years of increasing responsible healthcare leadership experience gained within an ambulatory setting.

**Staff Position Consideration may include candidates with a Master's degree in Nursing and a minimum of ten years of increasing responsible healthcare leadership experience gained within an ambulatory setting.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience gained within an academic medical center is preferred.

About the Division/College/School
The College of Community Health Sciences (the College) is home to one of the nation's largest family medicine residencies. In its role as a regional campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, the College provides clinical education and training to medical students in the Primary Care track and the Rural Medical Scholars Program. The College operates the University Medical Center (UMC), with six locations that together comprise the largest community medical practice in West Alabama, as well as the UA Student Health Center and Pharmacy, Brewer-Porch Children's Center, and Capstone Hospitalist Group. The College’s mission focuses on improving the health of individuals and communities in Alabama and the region through leadership in medical education and primary care; the provision of high-quality, accessible health care services; and scholarship.

CCHS is sponsor of the UA Family Medicine Residency and seven fellowships for family physicians. The Residency, a 16-16-16 program now in its 45th year, is the second largest family medicine residency in the country. Of the more than 470 Residency graduates, 85% practice in the five-state area of the Southeast, with half in rural areas, and comprise 1 of 7 family physicians practicing in Alabama. Nearly 900 medical students have completed their clinical training at the College since 1974, entering Family Medicine and primary care careers at more than twice the national average.

The College’s nationally recognized Rural Pipeline Programs and the Institute for Rural Health Research, along with basic sciences, social sciences, and health professional faculty and resources on the UA campus and innumerable specialty and medical research faculty among the School of Medicine faculty, create a uniquely resource-rich environment for a medical educator. The College’s clinical enterprise also conducts 150,000 ambulatory visits and more than 10,000 admissions a year to a broad patient population, including UA faculty and staff and the general population of West Alabama.
