Position Description

NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for a position at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor in the department of Global China Studies, with a focus on Chinese diaspora / Sinophone literature, film, and/or media.

Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions with respect to research start-up funds and compensation, and they include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may in certain cases have the opportunity to spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU Global Network, engaging in both research and teaching.

Qualifications

We seek candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in Chinese studies, literary studies, cinema studies, media studies, or a closely related discipline. Those with expertise in postcolonial discourse, inter-Asia connections, or the Global South (broadly conceived) are particularly encouraged to apply. We especially welcome candidates whose research interests complement those of our current faculty in Global China Studies, Humanities, and/or Interactive Media Arts (IMA).

The selected candidate is expected to teach undergraduate courses that advance research and analytical skills on topics related to the Chinese diaspora and supervise senior capstone thesis. The candidate should also actively engage in campus-wide service, research initiatives, and events.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research, statement of teaching interests, and one writing sample via Interfolio. Additionally, applicants will be prompted to enter the names and email addresses of three referees. Each referee will be contacted to upload a reference letter through Interfolio.

Applications should be received by November 15, 2023 to be considered. To apply, follow this link: https://apply.interfolio.com/133398. If you have any questions, please email the NYU Shanghai NY Office of Faculty Recruitment shanghai.faculty.recruitment@nyu.edu.
