Salary range: The salary range for this position is $64,480-$66,868 for the first year, and $69,209-$71,769 for the second year. Pay is determined by previous experience in a Postdoctoral Scholar appointment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar in Climate Communications and Environmental Justice.

UCHRI is the systemwide organization serving all 10 campuses in the UC system. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work in close collaboration with UCHRI personnel, School of Humanities partners, UC project scientists, and community groups as part of the Wildland-Urban Interface Climate Action Network (WUICAN). This position will engage in applied research and research-driven programming in the area of climate communications and environmental justice.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will:

contribute to conceiving some of the programming for the Climate Communications Brigade, a UCHRI-organized set of trainings, evaluative activities, and community-based research projects
pursue appropriate training in climate communications and research justice as recommended by UCHRI leadership
operationalize programming in climate communications, including an undergraduate internship program and a graduate student boot camp
organize, participate in, and document an interfaith focus group on climate justice with local religious leaders
contribute to a climate action / environmental justice curriculum for youth that incorporates science, writing, and art
participate in key meetings and research collaborations with project scientists, community groups, and other interested parties
participate in and document community dialogues and other activities hosted by project partners
create significant written project outcomes such as bibliographies, concept papers, blog posts, and reports
contribute to formative and summative evaluation of community-based research associated with the project
contribute to and support a UC-wide Climate Communications network consisting of faculty and senior staff from UC humanities centers and environmental studies centers
Some travel in the region (to research and community sites) and in the state (to other UC campuses) may be required for this position.

Preference will be given to candidates with a UC Ph.D. with a scholarly background in topics related to the grant foci (environmental humanities, environmental justice, climate communications, science, technology, and society, applied humanities).

In order to be considered, candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a humanities-related field, with degree in hand prior to the appointment start date.

This full-time two-year appointment may begin as early as December 1, 2023. Annual salary for 1st year is anticipated to begin at $64,480-$66,868, with a comprehensive benefits package. The salary is based on UCI’s salary scales and dependent on qualifications and experience.
