Plant Engineering Tech II
Plant Engineering
Primarily responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment.
For consideration,
- High school diploma or equivalent
- or five-years combination of vocational school and experience
- EPA-approved Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate (or obtain one within 6 months of hire at own expense).
- Three or more years of experience maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. (
- Knowledge of the principles of air-conditioning and air-conditioning maintenance methods.
- Experience in the care and maintenance of air-conditioning, heating equipment, and control devices, including instruction in troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of air compressors, pneumatic controls, electronic temperature controls, relay systems, thermostats, VAV systems, VFDs, rooftop and other air-handling units, including gas-fired units, chillers, energy management systems, pumps, 2-pipe, and 4-pipe systems.
- Knowledge of the principles of electricity.
- Knowledge of standard parts, tools, and test equipment used in the trade and proper and safe installation of new and replacement parts.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals, and the ability to implement that knowledge in actual performance.
- Ability to plan work and keep accurate records of work performed and materials used.
- Ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, and electronic defects.
- Ability to prioritize work, maintain quality control standards, and maintain records.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, dependable transportation, and be insurable by the university carrier.
- Must be able to comply with workplace guidelines and attendance requirements.
- Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various Building Automation Systems (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, TAC) to ensure proper operation of chilled water service to campus buildings.
- Coordinate work with outside vendors to ensure proper repair and maintenance of campus building infrastructure.
- Provide assistance to Plant Engineering Tech I positions when needed.
- Operate, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on:
- Chillers, cooling towers, and domestic and heating boilers
- Heat pumps, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment.
- Pumps, compressors, motors, and other auxiliary equipment.
- Electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic control systems.
- Electrical and plumbing equipment.
- Responsible for regulatory and policy compliance as it applies to the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
The ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of the department.
