What is the role of migration in the dynamics of cultural development as regards gender, ethnicity and demography? To answer this question, the ERC-funded VICTEUR project will work with the SFI-funded Insight Centre for Data Analytics at UCD to explore large-scale historical text corpora from a computational perspective. This will allow us to study intra-European migration during the 19th century through the `macroscope' of machine learning methods and the `microscope' of literary scholarship.
The successful candidate for this role will work on developing new computational methods that use text mining and natural language processing to extract insights and trends from large collections of historical texts provided by the British Library. Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science, with a proven track record of research and publications in the areas of information retrieval and natural language processing. Excellent programming skills are essential.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
Salary range: €42,782 - €43,371 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead.
