Overview

Applications are being accepted for a part-time Multicultural Student Support Specialist at Moraine Park Technical College, Fond du Lac Campus. The Multicultural Student Support Specialist develops effective strategies for student engagement and academic success. Providing campus-wide programming and one on one mentoring to increase inclusion, belonging, and retention of all multicultural student populations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with MPTC faculty and employees to ensure students culturally transition to the MPTC campus community through diversity-related programming and educational plan reviews. Plan, develop and implement multicultural student outreach activities and activities related to inclusion, belonging, and retention.• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community support services to help promote student success and retention. Participate in community diversity-related activities and events associated with the goals and objectives of the College.• Enhance student retention and completion rates by supporting and promoting peer-to-peer connections through academic and engagement activities. Evaluate the effectiveness of support provided to multicultural students by developing and maintaining activity reports for retention, grant reporting, tracking, and accountability purposes. Maintain student records.• Create and lead programming to educate students and employees on issues related to diverse and underrepresented populations.• Coordinate and implement professional development activities regarding multilingual students and retention with our ELL department, recruitment and area high schools. Collaborate with service providers and community-based organizations to ensure communication and understanding and to promote campus awareness of multicultural student experiences, needs, and concerns.• Assist enrolled students in their transition to MPTC including tours, resources, and 1:1 meetings linking students to other support services.• Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMust-Have Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, education, human services, psychology, sociology, or a related field.• Two years’ experience in working with multicultural students/communities or in Student Services in higher education.• Proficient knowledge of bilingual-related issues, services, and the transition processes required to promote student success in a higher education setting.• Demonstrated experience working with a diverse adult student population. Working knowledge of student development theory and needs of two-year college students.• Working knowledge of educational settings, general public relations, and the mission of the technical colleges.• Knowledge of ERP systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management to provide a complete and timely explanation of issues and decisions to ensure customer satisfaction.• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers in order to facilitate the successful transition and academic success of multicultural students. Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team.• High degree of integrity and professionalism and a demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of information and demonstrate critical and systems thinking.• Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize special projects with routine assignments.• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work; analyze information, resolve problems and make recommendations.• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity. Desired Qualifications:• Experience in a two-year postsecondary educational setting.• Bilingual written and verbal communication skills. Native level fluency (written, oral and auditory) in Spanish language.• Working knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).Any combination of necessary experience and qualifications which provides desired knowledge, skills, and abilities. Other Position Requirements:• Must possess a valid driver’s license.• Flexible scheduling may be required to include evenings and weekends.
