    Plant Engineering

    St. Edward's University is currently searching for a journeyman plumber. This position is primarily responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing.

    For consideration,
    • Journeyman Plumber License and a minimum of three years related experience including demonstrable experience in maintenance plumbing.
    • Knowledge of troubleshooting/repair of Sloan flush meters and Delta tub/shower valves.
    • Must be willing to be licensed in backflow prevention and fire hydrant testing.
    • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable by the university carrier.
    • Must be able to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and prepare rough sketches of work to be performed.
    • Prior use of jackhammers, sewer auger, pipe threading machine, and miscellaneous plumbing hand and power tools required.
    • Knowledge of gas/electric welding preferred.
    • Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check is required.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Installation and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures;
    • Operation and maintenance of pumps and water distribution systems, hot and cold-water systems and similar
    • components, and water wells;
    • Maintenance and repair of potable water systems, sewer lift stations, laboratory water (deionized water) systems,
    • Emergency fire lines and hydrants, backflow preventers, and water wells;
    • Testing of completed work and conducting necessary adjustments;
    • Performs periodic inspections of systems for safe and efficient operation;
    • Development of material, labor, and total costs estimate of repair and installation jobs;
    • Creates reports that detail the time and materials required to repair and maintain equipment;
    • System operation record maintenance;
    • May direct others on major installations and repair jobs.
    • Responsible for regulatory and policy compliance as it applies to the position.
    • Maintain confidentiality.


    Supervisory Responsibilities: None

    Working Conditions:
    • The ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of the department.
    • Work schedule is typically 10:00 am-6:30 pm, Monday through Friday, however, scheduled hours may change for special events.
    • Must be available for on-call duty on a rotating basis and have dependable transportation.
    • This position is considered to be essential personnel and may be called in duringemergency closures.
