The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department at Agnes Scott College (Decatur, Georgia) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position beginning Fall 2024. Scholars with a Ph.D. or certificate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies/Women’s and Gender Studies/Feminist Studies are preferred, but we will also consider applicants with Ph.D.s in other fields whose work employs a feminist lens. We seek a scholar who conducts research at the intersections of gender, race, and class, is qualified to share the teaching of core courses in the WGSS major and minor, and has expertise in an area that addresses curricular needs both inside and outside our department. We are particularly interested in recruiting a scholar with research and teaching expertise in Black Feminist/Womanist Studies, Latin/a/o/x/e Studies, and/or who centers gender, race, and class in the study of environmental justice, health equity, law, politics, education, and/or science and technology. Candidates with facility in social science methodologies, ethnographic research, and/or community-based research are strongly preferred. The 3/2 teaching load will ideally include Introduction to Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Intersectional Research Methods, Power at Work (an internship class), and upper-level courses in the candidate’s specialty. Candidates who are open to contributing to SUMMIT, the college’s global learning and leadership development initiative, are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working with a socially and economically diverse student population. To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, a 1-page diversity statement (i.e., a statement describing how you would foster diversity, equity, and inclusion at Agnes Scott College through your teaching, research, and/or service and citing experience you can draw upon to enhance your efforts in this area), contact information for three references, and a list of relevant graduate-level coursework (e.g. WGS/SOC 695: Feminist Research Methods–unofficial transcripts are also sufficient) to facultyserv@agnesscott.edu with the subject line: WGSS Search. If access to the internet is an issue, a hard copy of the application materials can be submitted to Dr. Lauran Whitworth, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department, Agnes Scott College, 141 E. College Ave., Decatur, GA 30030. Application review begins October 16th and will continue until the position is filled. Additional materials will be solicited from selected applicants later in the search process. Questions about the position, program, or application process can be directed to Dr. Lauran Whitworth, Department Chair, via email at lwhitworth@agnesscott.edu
