Job Description
Classification Title:
Extension Horticulture Program Assistant
Job Description:
Coordinate educational efforts of Urban Horticulture Program and teach select gardening topics through workshops, demonstrations, seminars, and other appropriate methods.
Answer horticulture calls, emails, blogs comments, etc. from citizens using appropriate Florida-Friendly Landscaping and fact-based Central Florida horticultural knowledge.
Collect accurate records of program activities and attendance, develop, collect and analyze survey data and accomplishments, and assist in required reporting.
Work effectively with supervising agent in prioritizing program area needs and with completing work on a timely basis including required reports and maintaining records. In conjunction with supervising agent, provide leadership to Extension program assistants/managers and effectively partner with community partners.
Expected Salary:
$15.80-20/hr, commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, skill, and ability to answer horticultural questions involving Central Florida horticulture.
Ability to work effectively with people and leadership.
Highly organized and flexible to changing conditions.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to manage time and maintain accurate records.
Ability to communicate with others; talking/teaching adults and youth.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate a computer and knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Reliable Wifi service, if working remote/hybrid.
Special Instructions to Applicants:
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION
Basic knowledge of Florida gardening, soils, fertilizers, irrigation, turfgrass, etc. Ability to relate with and teach diverse audiences.
Must successfully pass test Green Industry Best Management Practices certification.
SUPERVISION
Verbal and written instructions for training purposes, program delivery, and operating procedures. Additional instructions on an as-needed basis. Must be able to work independently and in a team. This position reports to the Urban Horticulture Extension Agent and County Extension Director. Must be able to work independently.
COMMUNICATION
Ability to communicate with others; talking/teaching adults and youth, exceptional interpersonal skills required. Daily interactions with team members and the public are expected.

Must be capable of collecting, organizing, and maintaining sensitive information.
CREATIVITY, STRATEGY AND LEADERSHIP
Ability to work with others and provide coordination to the Urban Horticulture Program in the absence of the Agent and/or CED.
