Areas of interest include: GeoAI, earth systems, modeling, climate change, spatial analysis, conservation, medical geography, and understanding complex socio-ecological systems. Preference will be given to researchers who integrate social and economic data to study the interactions between human activities and natural systems. The successful candidate will emphasize how their expertise in remote sensing will enhance the department's capabilities in data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation.

Primary responsibilities include 1) the development of a high-quality research portfolio employing Remote Sensing (e.g. utilizing GeoAI, Hyperspectral, LiDAR, Drones, Multispectral), 2) a 2-1 teaching assignment including newly developed undergraduate and graduate courses that contribute to our existing certificate programs in GIScience and GeoAI along with mentoring students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds, and 3) performance of administrative/service duties commensurate with a tenure-track appointment in the Department.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a funded research portfolio linked to their Remote Sensing field. The ability to contribute significantly to graduate education and the mentoring of graduate students is highly desirable. Preference will be given to scholars with significant existing teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels with a track record of research excellence.

The Department of Geography has 24 active faculty members who conduct teaching and research in a broad spectrum across our focus areas, which are Geospatial Analysis & Techniques; Earth System Science; Medical Geography in Global Health; Geopolitics & the Global Economy; Places, Networks & Flows; Catastrophes, Conservation, &Conflict; and Sustainability & the Global Environmental Change. It offers BS/BA, MS/MA, and PhD degree tracks, including online and distance learning options. Please visit https://geog.ufl.edu/ to learn more about the department.

Additionally, the college has strong interdisciplinary programs and centers where faculty linkages are encouraged, such as International Studies, Sustainability Studies, the Center for African Studies, and Latin American Studies. There are also many UF-wide investments that might contribute to the success of new faculty: the Informatics Institute, the AI2 Center, the Florida Climate Institute, and the Emerging Pathogens Institute. The University is home to HiPerGator, one of the most powerful high-performance computers at a US public university (https://www.rc.ufl.edu/about/hipergator/).
