Housed within the Division of Student Affairs, the Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP) is the primary department on the UC Berkeley campus charged with developing and implementing programs and strategies to improve academic preparation, expand educational opportunities, and ensure access to higher education for low-income, first generation, and underrepresented students. Working in partnership with local schools and communities, CEP improves academic achievement and expands post-secondary educational opportunities for students who face significant barriers to college.
The Community College Transfer Service (CCTS) provides leadership and resources to California community colleges, students, staff, and communities to increase the academic preparation and opportunity for all students who aspire to transfer to four-year colleges, including UC Berkeley. The services provided by CCTS continue the educational pipeline from high school through California community colleges to four-year institutions. CCTS's work promotes the belief that “transfer” is critical to providing access to higher education and to California's commitment to educational equity. In an effort to increase the transfer rate and the diversity of California community college students enrolling at UC, CEP established the Transfer Alliance Project (TAP). TAP provides intensive student academic development and enrichment services for underserved students at selected CA community colleges. TAP promotes strong partnerships between high school outreach programs, community colleges, and four-year institutions by working with graduates from CEP's high school programs and participants in community college learning communities. TAP works closely with community college faculty and support programs to develop strong networks and access to resources for students.
The CCTS/TAP Coordinators may serve partner sites in the following regions: East Bay, Napa/Sacramento, and/or South Bay.
The department is hoping to hire two (2) people for this position.

- Delivers the implementation of college preparation services and a college-going culture to California community college districts and/or regions, such as training administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Works with districts, community colleges, UCs, families, and communities to create and foster a college-going transfer culture to assist students to meet their academic potential and goals.
- Delivers and organizes district-wide and regional college-going events and activities such as developing college-going curriculum, and web-based resources.
- Provides professional development in community college districts and/or regions to promote and enhance a college-going transfer culture and readiness.
- Provides leadership in strategic and program planning efforts that promote transfer success to UC and 4-year colleges.
- Develops partnerships and networks with community colleges, other higher education institutions, and community organizations. Organizes meetings with community college personnel and/or service providers regarding major district-wide and/or regional efforts.
- Provides complex academic advising to community college students. Develops customized student academic plans to ensure post-secondary admission eligibility to UC and other 4-year colleges.
- Develops and maintains relationships with a cohort of community college students by planning and implementing individual and group advising services.
- Develops and maintains relationships with parents and families to provide college-transfer preparation advising that supports student academic success and access to higher education.
- Advocates for students and parents.
- Plans, facilitates, and conducts student enrichment events, meetings, and regional conferences on the Berkeley campus and at community colleges.
Communication and Reporting
- Collects, analyzes, and evaluates student and program data.
- Produces program reports and evaluations.
- Communicates and reports to CEP, UC committees, and other funding institutions regarding program implementation and progress.
- Shares and discusses best practices with other university participants at national meetings.
- Helps maintain social media presence in a professional setting for CCTS/TAP.
Student Supervision and Training
- Assists in the recruitment and supervision of student workers and volunteers.
- Trains, coaches, supervises, and evaluates job performance of student workers and volunteers.
- May assists with fundraising and proposal writing.
- May serves on department, campus, and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
- Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues.
- Ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
- Knowledge of and/or ability to learn K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures for youth, parents, and school representatives.
- Knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation urban youth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
- Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
- Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,000.00 - $79,000.00.
- This is a 12-month, 100% full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.
