SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Director of Admissions at UMass Law School is the senior admissions officer for the Law School. The Director of Law School Admissions is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Admissions Office, including recruiting, selecting, and enrolling a qualified, diverse, and motivated student body, developing and executing a data-driven and dynamic strategic enrollment plan for the Law School, managing and motivating a talented and passionate team of admissions professionals, and ensuring that all outreach, informational, and recruitment, events are professional, effective, and promote the justice and access-focused mission of the Law School.

Follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention, and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage day-to-day operations of the Admissions Office, overseeing the workflow and assignment of responsibilities
• Coordinate the Law School’s recruitment, selection, and enrollment processes for JD admissions
• Counsel and advise prospective students about legal education, the practice of law, and UMass Law
• Compile and coordinate applications for the Admissions Committee and train and supervise file readers in appropriate file review
• Along with the University’s marketing team and other engaged parties, plan and implement admissions recruiting campaigns and events, develop and iteratively improve all core digital and print marketing and communication pieces focused on prospective and actual applicants to the Law School, manage and oversee all standard departmental communications to applicants and admitted students, create digital campaigns to increase the law school’s visibility and reputation throughout the Commonwealth and the country, and collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of recruitment marketing campaigns and make adjustments to enhance and improve results
• Develop recruitment methods and strategies designed to increase the application pool from targeted geographic areas, first, then develop national recruitment strategies. Work with the school’s senior leadership team to develop an overall strategic plan
• Be an ad-hoc member of the faculty admissions committee and a member of the scholarship committee
• Oversee the generation and dissemination of regular operational, statistical, and narrative reports that inform the Law School’s admissions practices and decisions in real time throughout the admissions cycle
• Identify, analyze, and respond to regional and national law school application trends and adapt the Law School’s recruitment strategies and practices to maximize the effectiveness of its recruitment efforts considering these trends
• Ensure that the Admissions Office has a user-friendly and responsive process in place for prospective and admitted students to correspond with the Admissions Office throughout the lifecycle of the application process
• Oversee the development and execution of onsite activities that enhance recruitment of potential applicants and yield of admitted students, including individual informational and admit visits, and similar activities
• Working with the Assistant Dean of Administration & Finance, develop a strategic scholarship allocation plan to ensure the Law School is competitive with its peer law schools and increases yield of highly qualified admitted students
• Attend university/college, regional and national law student recruiting events
• Enhance the public image of the Law School by participating in relevant external events within and outside the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• Be an active participant in law school admissions professional discussions and information sharing to keep informed of best practices in law school admissions
• Oversee the recruitment, selection, and training of the Admissions Office’s law student ambassadors
• Work closely with the pre-law advisors and other involved parties at the fifteen colleges and universities that the Law School has 3+3 programs with to enhance the recruitment of qualified students at those schools to the programs
• Train, supervise, and evaluate Admissions Office staff
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned and appropriate

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in public administration, marketing or related field from an accredited institution and/or Juris Doctorate

EXPERIENCE: Significant professional experience (over five years up to and including seven years) in an ABA-accredited law school admissions office

• Expertise with LSAC and ACES database, or similar software

• A track record of success in growing application volume and achieving enrollment goals

• Demonstrated supervisory and staff management skills

OTHER: Flexible schedule (including weekend work) and off-campus travel as required

• Current and strong familiarity with technologies, platforms, and tools regularly utilized for law school admissions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Juris Doctorate
• Demonstrated skills in examining and evaluating operations and developing and/or re-engineering operating strategies, systems and procedures
• Knowledge of higher education marketing trends, student recruitment and retention issues as they relate to legal education
