Description:
The history department at Colby College seeks applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Modern Atlantic World History (1-year sabbatical replacement), with a preferred focus on (but not exclusively) intellectual history, histories of race, gender, and sexuality, and histories of trans-Atlantic slavery, migration, trade, and empire, beginning July 1, 2024.
The department is especially interested in scholars whose work is not focused on North America. The successful candidate will teach four courses in total, including a survey course on Atlantic World History and HI 276, Patterns and Processes in World History. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring to the classroom experiences, identities, ideas, and ways of engaging that resonate with the increasingly diverse student body at Colby.
Qualifications:
We seek candidates with great potential to be innovative, effective, and inclusive teacher-scholars, who may be willing to make use of resources such as the Colby Museum of Art, Special Collections, and the Mule Works Innovation Lab. The Colby History Department is committed to professional development and the future advancement of all its members.
PhD required by the start of the appointment.
Application Instructions:
Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of research interests, and three confidential letters of recommendation. The statement of teaching philosophy and the statement of research interests should demonstrate commitment to the values of diversity and inclusive teaching. Please submit applications via Interfolio at the following link http://apply.interfolio.com/132965. Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled.
