Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Senior Communications and External Relations Officer, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for a wide range ofcommunications functions to support the implementation of the department's promotion/communication strategies. The incumbent also provides event logistics support and collaborates with various stakeholders to assist in building relationships.
Note: this is a one-year term oppportunity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Writing and editing digital communications
- Drafting and editing content for print and/or online communications channels
- Probing for information from clients to determine communication and outreach needs
- Analyzing and recommending options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
- Keeping well-informed on technological advancements that enhance marketing/communication objectives
- Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration
- Tracking and monitoring social media analytics
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or a related field, or equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience.
- Minimum four years recent and relevant experience in communications and event coordination including maintaining digital content, writing and editing publication and promotional materials, and coordinating events, ideally in an academic or similar environment
- Experience assisting with the implementation of promotion and communication strategies.
- Demonstrated experience creating and proof-reading communications/marketing content for internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated experience designing layouts and formats for print and electronic media.
- Demonstrated experience with the publication/distribution of web and print communications, newsletters, bulletins, press releases, brochures and event programs etc.
- Experience with video editing.
- Experience drafting, editing and preparing original written material for internal and external audiences.
- Experience coordinating end-to-end logistics of internal and outreach events, with the ability to perform event set up and close off.
- Experience conducting research, gathering information from published sources, and tracking/compiling analytics to inform decision making.
- Advanced skills in MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Skilled in content management systems (WordPress and Drupal).
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Premiere, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver).
- Demonstrated experience in social media platforms for professional environments (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Skilled in newsletter and marketing platforms (e.g. MailChimp).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills, with the ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to take initiative.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and connect with diverse audiences.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Knowledge of Computer Science programs and research.
