Student Teacher Supervisor/Seminar Adjunct Instructor Department of Human Development and Leadership

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) invites applications for a part-time position as an adjunct student teacher supervisor and instructor in the Department of Human Development and Leadership, beginning August 2023. St. Edward's is characterized by its commitment to the Holy Cross educational mission to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse student body that is deeply committed to social justice.

The successful candidate will provide support in the assessment of a small group of student teacher interns currently enrolled in the Teacher Education Program. This adjunct supervisor position also involves the management of a seminar conducted once weekly in the evening. Adjunct supervisors serve as resources for student teachers as well as act as liaisons between the University and the field. Adjunct supervisors offer experienced and objective perspectives on overall classroom effectiveness. This position offers flexibility of scheduling..

Minimum Qualifications:
    Masters Degree in Education, or closely related
  • Three years of P-12 teaching experience and/or related contemporary professional experience
  • Completed TEA Field Supervisor Training(can completed during first semester of employment)
  • Strong written and oral communication skillsExcellent people skills and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior supervision experience
  • Knowledge of Austin Independent School DistrictExperience working with new teachers

Essential Responsibilities Include:
  • Observeandgatherassessmentdataonlessonsconductedbystudentteachersatvarious school sites
  • Provide descriptive feedback on a student teacher's execution of professional responsibilities (lesson planning, implementation and assessment, classroom interaction, maintenance of records)
  • Help the student teacher relate teaching theory to classroom practice (e.g., discuss reasons for selecting materials and methods)
  • Help the student teacher develop consistent classroom management practices conducivetolearning,whichpromoterespectforothersandforculturalandlinguistic
  • Meet weekly(virtually or in-person)with the Student Teachers in a Responsible for regulatory and policy compliance as it applies tot he
  • Other duties as assigned
