Detailed Position Information
The Department of Health Science, College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama seeks 2 candidates for a nine-month, tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Health Education and Promotion. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent research and seek external research funding. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: health disparities, community health, health behavior theory, health communication, health education/promotion interventions, program planning, program evaluation, research methods, environmental health, and epidemiology. The selected candidate will be expected to mentor doctoral students, provide professional service to the University, profession, and community; and perform other duties as assigned.

The Department of Health Science is comprised of 21 full-time faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a variety of areas that center on improving the health and well-being of individuals, communities, populations, and the environment. The Department is home to over 600 majors enrolled in one of the degree programs in the Department, including the B.S. in Public Health (concentrations in Health Education and Promotion, and Health Professions); Master of Public Health (concentration in Health Education and Promotion); M.A. in Health Studies; Ph.D. in Health Education and Promotion; and M.S. in Athletic Training. The B.S. in Public Health and the Master of Public Health degrees are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must hold an earned doctorate degree in health education, health promotion, public health or a closely related field at the time of employment. We seek individuals with an ability to engage in research and scholarly activities as evidenced by publication in refereed journals and a focused research plan with potential for external funding. We also seek applicants with teaching experience or demonstrated potential for success in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, with proficiency in one or more of the aforementioned areas. Preference will be given to candidates who have: (a) an established record of research and scholarly activity, (b) previous teaching experience, (c) previous health education/public health experience, (d) professional association involvement, and (e) a record of community engagement. Public health or health education-related certification is desirable (i.e. CPH, CHES®, MCHES®).
