Position Summary

This position within Student Health Services, under the general direction of a nurse, nurse practitioner or physician, performs a variety of skilled nursing duties, and a wide range of technical, skilled and paraprofessional nursing duties and care to students within the scope of practice for a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Other duties may include participation in other campus programs pursuant to the mission of San Diego State University, i.e., health education outreach programs, immunization campaigns, etc. The LVN II may be required to work at different sites both within and outside of SDSU Student Health Services, depending upon current staffing needs. The Licensed Vocational Nurse II may oversee clinic operations and coordinate specialty clinics and/or provide case management related to a specialty area, especially if they possess additional training or certification in a specialty area.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position expected to end on or before June 30, 2024 with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU's staff and faculty at San Diego State University. Departments include, but not limited to, Assistant Deans for Student Affairs; Career Services; Center for Educational Partnerships, Outreach and Success; Communications Services; Counseling & Psychological Services; Cultural and Identity Centers; Educational Opportunity Programs and Ethnic Affairs; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Military Veterans Program; New Student and Parent Programs; Office of the Student Ombudsman; Residential Education; Resource Management; Student Disability Services; Student Health Services; Student Life and Leadership; Student Rights and Responsibilities; Testing Services Office; Well-being & Health Promotion; and programming related to Inclusive Excellence.

The Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. The Senior Associate Vice President serves as a lead executive officer in the Division. The Senior Associate Vice President is responsible for the direction and coordination of department programs/personnel as designated by the Vice President for the Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. The incumbent represents the interests of the Division on a day-to-day basis at the sub-Cabinet level and is responsible for the promotion of student development through a program of co-curricular activities and services to students. The Senior Associate Vice President is also responsible for the quality of the campus social, cultural and educational environment and the student services that enhance the University's academic programs and the intellectual and personal development of students on the San Diego State University campus.

Student Health Services offers primary medical care and health promotion to students of San Diego State University through a wide range of programs and services. Care is provided by board certified physicians, certified nurse practitioners and other medical staff including nurses, clinical laboratory scientists, x-ray technologists, medical assistants, and pharmacists. In addition to the basic medical care, Student Health Services offers health education, orthopedics, osteopathic manipulative treatment and psychiatry.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a state approved vocational nursing program in an accredited school of vocational nursing or equivalent training and experience as defined by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT).

Equivalent to three to four years of progressive responsibility as a LVN, including some experience in the specialty area to successfully perform work in the specialty; possess and maintain specialized training and/or related certifications.

Key Qualifications

• Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to positively adjust and adapt to a changing work environment.
• Skill in the use of computers for medical record documentation.
• Experience and ability to work with patients from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience working with college students, preferably in a college setting is preferred.
• Experience giving immunizations and allergy injections.

Licenses/Certifications Required

• Possess and maintain a valid Vocational Nurse license issued by the State of California; possess and maintain certification for intravenous therapy as defined by the BVNPT; and may also be required to possess and maintain a valid CPR/AED certification and/or IV certification as appropriate to the assigned duties.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,465 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,622 - $6,989 per month.
