Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Out-of-State and Specialized Recruitment, the Admissions Counselor Trainee advises prospective students, families, and the campus community on admissions requirements, the SDSU and CSU application process, services on campus and other University related information both on the road and on campus. This position represents SDSU to a variety of constituents and maintains positive relationships with school and counselors, and the general public. The Admissions Counselor Trainee also will help to plan and execute recruitment events that take place both on-campus and on the road, as well as providing guidance and oversight to the team of student assistants.

This position functions in a trainee capacity and will be under direct supervision in the advisement of students and admissions information sessions to prospective students and families on a one-on-one basis as well as in a group setting. This position will conduct presentations and advise prospective students both in-person as well as virtually.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position, anticipated to end one year from the date of appointment with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

Enrollment Services is comprised of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Graduate Admissions, Prospective Student Services, and Communications. The goals of Enrollment Services are to implement SDSU enrollment management policies and to provide services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation. The Out-of-State and Specialized Recruitment Team represents SDSU to various constituents regarding university admissions.

The unit consists of admission counselors, Regional Recruitment Managers, and Director. The admission counselors are responsible for recruiting non-resident and underrepresented undergraduate students, presenting admission information to students, parents, and counselors, and coordinating their travel to various high schools throughout the year. The Director of Out-of- State and Specialized Recruitment manages the staff and student assistants for this unit and implements the strategic plan in order for the university to meet its enrollment management goals.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Key Qualifications

• Experience with MS Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and software programs Peoplesoft, Zoom, EAB, Slate, and OnBase.
• Experience speaking with students and parents in individual and group settings.
• Experience working at a college or university as part of an enrollment team.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,764 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,764 - 4,604 per month.
