Job OverviewThe College of Engineering and Applied Science is seeking applications for woodworking instructors. Applications are being accepted on a continuous basis to be included in the general pool of candidates from which adjunct (part-time) faculty are selected on an as-needed basis to teach face-to-face hands-on course instruction. Primary areas of instruction may include (but not limited to): Furniture Construction, tables, cabinets (case work). Experience with Wood Carving, Wood Crafts, Wood Turning or CNC Routers helpful.

Must have a complete knowledge of wood working machines, hand tools and the species of woods used in the industry.

Essential Functions
  • Provide instructions, demonstration and supervision of machinery, hand tool and shop safety practices.
  • Utilize communication and interpersonal skills to provide instruction for planning and executing common woodworking furniture projects.
  • Provide instructions for proper usage of typical woodworking machinery including jointer, planer, miter saw, table saw and hand tools.
  • Guide and supervise students’ progression from start to completion of individual projects.
  • Utilize problem solving skills to help students succeed through completion of their projects.
  • Engage students in cleanup of individual workspaces and entire woodshop at completion of each class.
  • Create an engaging, positive environment for learning new skills.
  • Track class attendance, material consumption and collect student fees.
  • Monitor supplies and equipment functionality. Inform supervisor of any required supplies or maintenance necessary for uninterrupted shop operation.
Minimum Requirements
  • BS in Woodworking or equivalent degree; OR at least 10 years of woodworking experience
  • Woodworking skills necessary to make items from wood including furniture, cabinetry, and joinery. Experience with carpentry, woodcarving, woodturning and CNC Routers helpful.
  • Experience working with and supervising students.
  • Good communications skills
  • Familiar with wood shop laboratory safety procedures, a strong attention to detail and a safety mindset.
