Illinois Residency Requirement: This position requires current Illinois residency to apply.

Under guidance from a designated supervisor, the Culinary Workers prepares or assists in the preparation of various food items served in the food court and kiosks located in the Morris University Center. Assigned tasks will vary from food prep (dicing, peeling measuring, and mixing) to simple cooking and grilling. The selected candidate(s) will ensure stations and work areas are cleaned and maintained following Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines. As part of a station team, the Culinary Workers may also assist in the serving of food as needed.

Additionally, the Culinary Workers II may also guide and train student assistants, participate in planning menus, and oversee simple area operations. Other duties in line with the professional responsibilities of the position may be assigned in support of the department’s mission and goals.

The hours for potential positions may vary. Candidates will apply to this posting for all openings. Culinary Worker II positions work mid-August and run though the academic year (mid-end of May). Food service positions may include layoff over academic breaks (winter holiday and spring break) and summer term.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Six (6) months of work experience in food preparation in a commercial setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of food terms, materials, equipment, and methods used to prepare food.

nowledge of materials and methods used to prepare food on large scale, use and care of relevant utensils and equipment, and food values and nutrition.

Knowledge of weights and measurements (i.e. pound, ounce, cup, gallon).

Ability to pass food handler's examination. Strong service orientation, actively looking for ways to help people.

Knowledge of sanitary procedures and directives; how to use simple cleaning solutions and equipment.
