          The University of North Dakota invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position to join UND’s Violence, Identity, and Personality Laboratory (VIP Lab; www.russellvip.com) directed by Dr. Tiffany Russell (https://und.edu/directory/tiffany.russell). The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with Dr. Russell on adult integrated behavioral health research aligned with UND’s Behavioral Health Strategic Initiative. The appointment will be full-time and benefitted. Funds are available for conference travel/ professional development, and there is a flexible start date of no later than July 1, 2024. The initial appointment is for one year and is renewable for a second year, pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding.

          UND’s Behavioral Health Strategic Initiative includes collaboration from the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Education and Human Development, and Nursing. Opportunities will be presented for collaboration across the initiative on research and external funding proposals. The postdoctoral research associate will be encouraged to develop at least one independent project and contribute to multiple external funding proposals.

          The postdoctoral fellow will conduct clinical research focused on behavioral health in adults, and there will be a specific focus on underserved populations (e.g., LGBTQ+, rural, Indigenous). Projects may include development and implementation of psychotherapeutic interventions for substance misuse and dual diagnoses (e.g., comorbid substance misuse and personality disorders), assessment of treatment-interfering factors (e.g., externalizing behaviors), and psychodiagnostic test development. Projects will generally include aspects of the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD), including the development of individual and group interventions for maladaptive personality traits. There will be opportunities for research protocol development, implementation of assessments and interventions in clinical research settings, manuscript preparation, grant writing, and development of independent research projects. Experience with empirically-supported treatments, clinical assessment, personality disorders, substance use disorders, psychometrics, advanced statistical methods, and/or grant writing is preferred. A doctoral degree from an APA accredited clinical or counseling psychology program is preferred, although doctoral degrees from related fields will receive full consideration.

          The postdoctoral fellow will receive one-on-one mentoring with Dr. Russell, ample opportunities to be engaged in all aspects of the research process, involvement in manuscript preparation and grant writing, experience supervising research assistants, and professional/career development.

          Purpose of Position

          While receiving formal mentorship, the postdoctoral researcher will be engaged in the following three interrelated tasks:

          1. Develop and submit collaborative external grant proposals focused on behavioral health in underserved populations.
          2. Contribute to ongoing projects and develop ideas for new collaborations and research initiatives in the area of integrated behavioral health.
          3. Collect and analyze data related to behavioral health, leading to publications and presentations.
          Duties & Responsibilities

          • Assist with research and administrative responsibilities to support the lab’s activities

          Required Competencies
          • Quantitative data analysis skills using SPSS or similar programs
          • APA-style manuscript writing
          • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with strong interpersonal skills
          • Strong oral and written communication skills
          • Evidence of strong data analytic skills
          Minimum Requirements
          • Doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, public health, social work, or related field, conferred by time of appointment.
          • Quantitative research and evaluation experience.
          • Evidence of research and scholarship potential (publications, professional conference participation).
          • Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

          Preferred Qualifications
          • Experience addressing health and social problems in rural and/or LGBTQ+ communities
          • Experience with psychometrics, psychological assessment, and/or psychotherapeutic research
          • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications
          • Experience developing grant funding proposals
          • Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students
          • Experience obtaining human subjects’ approvals
          Contract Period/Start Date

          Start date is flexible with beginning date before July 1, 2024
