Description:

The Department of Psychology at Hofstra University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in September 2024. The position is primarily for the MA Program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and the PhD Program in Applied Organizational Psychology, although some undergraduate teaching is available as well. The MA program is an applied program that prepares students for careers in such areas as human resources, training and development, management and organization development, and market research. Our applied PhD program also places a strong emphasis on research methods and statistics, as well as topics relating to human behavior in organizations. Students in our programs are active in SIOP, produce scholarly publications and conference presentations, and make practical contributions through local internships. Alumni go on to have impactful careers in top organizations and academic settings.

In addition to graduate and possibly undergraduate teaching in I/O areas, the position requires the development of a research program and supervision of doctoral student research. The successful applicant will have completed a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or a related area and will demonstrate a strong record of accomplishment in research and teaching, commensurate with rank. Practical experience working with organizations is desirable, but not required. Applicants for the position should have strong expertise in research methods and statistics and one or more specialty areas of I/O Psychology. We value diversity in all forms and seek applicants with a variety of experiences, interests, and specialties.

There is a variety of collaborative research resources available to psychology faculty on and off campus. A qualified candidate may have shared access to the department’s new neurophysiology lab, which houses a B-Alert X24 20-channel mobile EEG system, BIOPAC functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) system and BIOPAC equipment for measurement of skin conductance and heart rate variability. Faculty can also request access to the Behavioral Research in Business Lab, which includes 27 workstations with cameras, audio/voice equipment, eye-tracking capabilities, and a variety of other biometric options. The School of Engineering is currently building a big data analysis lab with an HPC/AI cluster and HPE parallel file system; the initial build (opening in 2023) includes a two-node NVIDIA GPU cluster with plans for a further 2-4 nodes upon grant funding.

Hofstra University is located on Long Island in close proximity to New York City (25 miles east of Manhattan), with its wealth of business, entertainment, and cultural opportunities. Our faculty and students have diverse backgrounds and we welcome diverse applicants.
