The George Mason University, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, has research labs and faculty distributed over three campuses addressing three primary research thrust areas: the Fairfax campus (materials, energy, and sustainability), Science and Technology campus in Manassas (biomedical – biochemistry and synthetic organic chemistry), and Potomac Environmental Research & Education Center (environmental chemistry). Responsibilities:
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will conduct original research in the electrochemistry of 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures. The selected candidate will prepare 2D materials samples and use advanced electrochemical techniques to investigate their interfacial photo(electro)catalytic properties. The Postdoctoral Researcher will plan, develop, and maintain procedures to ensure the completion of the project. Other required responsibilities include mentoring graduate/undergraduate students in their research, contributing to publications, proposals, and presentations, and assisting the general management of the lab.
This Postdoctoral position is funded for one year with the possibility for extension. The Postdoctoral Researcher will report directly to Dr. Yun Yu and have the opportunity to interact with other scientists in the College of Science and the Mason community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge in materials characterization and electrochemistry;
- Ability to work collaboratively with group members and internal/external colleagues;
- Excellent verbal and written skills; and
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral Degree – Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and related fields;
- Experience in publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals;
- Experience in research on 2D materials and electrochemistry;
- Experience in publishing articles in high-impact journals;
- Experience in instrumentation development and modeling; and
- Experience in writing grant proposals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the physics of van der Waals heterostructures; and
- Skills in nanoscale electrochemistry or scanning electrochemical microscopy.
