The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at NC State University is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and public outreach. The department offers undergraduate degrees in anthropology, criminology and sociology, and graduate degrees in anthropology (MA) and sociology (MA, PhD). The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS).Essential Job Duties:
The Department enrolls over 600 undergraduate majors and provides 25,000 semester credit hours of undergraduate instruction each academic year. In addition, the Department has approximately 40 Masters students and 50 PhD students during a typical year. Approximately 70 of these students are in the sociology PhD program, and 20 are in the anthropology MA program.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Biological Anthropology with expertise in bioarchaeology to begin Fall 2024. The faculty hired will contribute to the Anthropology graduate and undergraduate programs and should complement existing faculty research. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate introduction to biological anthropology course, and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in human osteology, bioarchaeology, and courses developed in their own speciality.Other Responsibilities:
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in anthropology or related field by the start date, a strong record of research and publications that demonstrates potential for extramural funding, demonstrable skills in theory and/or quantitative research methods, and a clear commitment to excellence in teaching and graduate student mentorship. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their experience, research, teaching and service, to the excellence of the academic community, and who can demonstrate an ability to foster a welcoming environment and work with underrepresented students.
